Fighting Gum Disease with the Perio Protect Method

Periodontal (gum) disease is extremely common amongst adults in the United States. Estimates vary on exactly how common this condition is, but according to some sources, up to 80 percent of people have at least a mild form of it. Dentists offer a number of treatments to help their patients fight gum disease, among which is the Perio Protect method. This innovative treatment provides a noninvasive, comfortable way to combat the bacterial that causes periodontal disease and help patients achieve improved oral health.

What Is Perio Protect?

The Perio Protect method is simple. First, you visit your dentist to talk about your treatment options for fighting gum disease. If you are a candidate for Perio Protect, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used as the basis for designing your custom trays. Your Perio Protect trays will contain a medicine that fights bacteria deep beneath the gum line — in the gum pockets where your toothbrush and other over the counter oral hygiene tools cannot adequately clean. You will wear the trays each day for a specific length of time and thus be able to battle gum disease in the comfort of your own home.

The trays have a special, patented seal that helps to keep the medicine in place. The low concentration of hydrogen peroxide that they contain not only combats bacteria, but it can also help you achieve fresher breath and whiter teeth.

Why Choose Perio Protect?

Perio Protect stands out amongst gum disease treatments due to its noninvasive nature. Traditionally, scaling and root planing is the go-to method for addressing gum disease. Although it is quite effective, some patients find it uncomfortable, and it does require a brief recovery period. In contrast, Perio Protect involves nothing more than wearing mouthguard-like trays.

In many cases, Perio Protect can be used as a standalone treatment. In other instances, it is the ideal complement for scaling and root planing or surgical procedures. It may be able to prevent the need for recurring invasive treatments and help you maintain sound gum health for many years.

The vast majority of patients who have used Perio Protect would recommend it to others. Not only is it easy to use, but it is also safe, comfortable, and effective.

Take Charge of Your Gum Health

If you have gum disease, even a mild form of it, it is important that you seek treatment. If your condition worsens, you could face chronic and serious oral and overall health problems, such as tooth loss and heart disease. Thanks to Perio Protect and other gum disease treatments, however, you will likely be able to prevent such issues and enjoy a fully functional, healthy, and attractive set of teeth and gums.
